KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The football games between archrivals Kansas and Missouri have been moved to Thanksgiving weekend for the next two seasons, both schools said Thursday.

The Big 12 Conference had requested the switch to guarantee the games would be televised.

"I appreciate the cooperation of both institutions in working with our broadcast partners to move this game so that it may be showcased to a television audience," Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg said in statements issued by the two schools.

The 2006 game in Columbia, Mo., was moved from Nov. 11 to Nov. 25, while the 2007 game at Lawrence, Kan., was shifted from Sept. 29 -- what would have been the Big 12 opener for both teams -- to Nov. 24.

Game times and broadcast stations have not yet been determined.
