SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Central's girls' soccer team pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie and knocked off Ozark 3-1 Friday in the opening round of the Springfield Kickapoo Tournament, a 16-team affair that includes two eight-team divisions.

Allie McGinty, Kate Miller and Megan McDonald scored goals for the Tigers (4-1). Megan Freeze contributed an assist.

"The first half we didn't play very well, but we played much better as a team in the second half," Central coach Tom Doyle said.

Central will play St. Louis power Ursuline Academy at 8 a.m. today in the semifinals.

Perryville 1, St. Pius 0

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Amanda Nuyt turned in a brilliant goalkeeping performance as Perryville (3-0) remained undefeated.

Nuyt recorded 17 saves, many of them spectacular, according to coach Stacie Bauwens.

"She was the woman today," Bauwens said. "She made some incredible saves."

Ashley Hadler scored the game's lone goal with about 13 minutes left in the second half. Anna Davis assisted on the play.

The JV contested ended in a 0-0 tie.

BASEBALL

Advance 15, Woodland 10

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Rylan Dunivan had four hits, four RBIs and stole three bases to help lift Advance to victory in its belated season opener.

The Hornets collected 20 hits overall in handing the Cardinals their first loss. Aaron Abernathy went 4-for-5, while Eric O'Hare and Justin Gibson had three apiece. Two of Gibson's hits went for doubles as he and O'Hare each drove in three runs.

Chad Hulvey had a triple for Woodland (3-1).

Aaron Cantrell picked up the win for Advance while Alex VanGennip suffered the loss.

Trailing 4-0, Advance scored six runs in the top of the second to go ahead for good.

SOFTBALL

Scott City 16, Dexter 1

DEXTER, Mo. -- Amy Young hurled a no-hitter and Scott City (2-2-1) scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to close out Dexter on the run rule.

Young (1-2) struck out 12, while Rachel Noon and Amanda O'Brien paced the Rams' offense with four and three hits, respectively.

Chaffee 13, Advance 3

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Playing its fourth game in five days, Chaffee (5-0) used a 10-run third inning to topple the Hornets (1-1).

Abby Walter's two-out bases loaded double drove home three runs in the third-inning uprising.

Shannon Hampton (3-0) tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Oran 13, Charleston 3

ORAN, Mo. -- Oran (2-1-1) managed only four hits, but three came in a nine-run first inning.

Ashley Dirnberger's two-run triple keyed the big inning, while Jami Pobst picked up the win in the game shortened to five innings by the run rule.

GIRLS' SWIMMING

Central 128, McCluer North 120, Francis Howell Central 79

ST. LOUIS -- Central won both ends of a double-dual meet at the Florissant Civic Center.

Trailing McCluer North by five points, the Tigers (6-6) won the final two events, the 100-meter breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay, to forge ahead.
