Cards dig out of 6-0 hole, beat Brewers

~ St. Louis scored 10 unanswered runs to break a three-game skid.

MILWAUKEE -- Scott Spiezio drove in three runs in a six-run fourth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals overcame a 6-0 deficit to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-6 on Friday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.

The Cardinals, swept in a three-game series at home this week by Cincinnati, had lost three of four since first baseman Albert Pujols was sidelined with a strained muscle in his side. They had lost six of nine overall. Pujols, the reigning NL MVP who leads the majors with 25 homers and 65 RBIs, is on the 15-day disabled list and is out indefinitely.

David Eckstein had three hits and drove in two runs and So Taguchi knocked in two runs for the Cardinals, who had 12 hits.

Jorge De La Rosa was making his third consecutive start for Milwaukee having been pushed into the starting rotation due to injuries to Ben Sheets, Tomo Ohka and Rick Helling.

Staked to a 6-0 lead, the left-hander couldn't protect it as St. Louis scored twice in the third and then six times in the fourth to chase him from the game.

After he walked the bases loaded to start the fourth, Joe Winkelsas (0-1) took over. The Cardinals scored single runs on Eckstein's single, Taguchi's walk with the bases loaded and Scott Rolen's groundout. After a walk loaded the bases, Spiezio doubled in three runs to match his career high for a game.

Winkelsas allowed three runs, two hits and two walks in one inning. De La Rosa, who appeared to have a problem with the nail on the index finger of his left hand, gave up five runs, five hits and four walks.

Cardinals starter Mark Mulder allowed a walk and a single before Carlos Lee hit his 20th homer with one out in the first. Milwaukee added three runs in the second on RBI doubles by Brady Clark and Rickie Weeks and Jeff Cirillo's RBI single.

Mulder allowed six runs and five hits in three innings. He has given up 22 runs and 27 hits in his last 14 innings.

Josh Hancock (2-2) picked up the victory with two perfect innings of relief.

Jason Isringhausen got the final four outs for his 19th save in 23 chances.

Cardinals 3B Rolen extended his team-best hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the first, leaving him one game shy of his career high. ... Brewers RF Geoff Jenkins, mired in a 4-for-22 slump, was dropped from his usual No. 3 spot to 7th in the lineup. ... St. Louis hadn't lost four consecutive regular season games since Sept. 27-30, 2004. They also lost four straight to the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 World Series.
