The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons Post 63 American Legion baseball team suffered a doubleheader loss Sunday to visiting House Springs.

Cape fell 2-1 and 7-2 as Post 63 saw its record dip to 6-6.

Levi Felter pitched five two-hit, shutout innings in the opener before exiting after walking the leadoff batter in the sixth. That runner came around to score, which was charged to Felter.

Josh Compas allowed a run and suffered the loss in relief.

Ford & Sons had five hits, led by Tyler Glidewell with two.

In the nightcap, House Springs broke open a close game with four seventh-inning runs. Cape again had five hits.

Josh Meyer took the loss. In five innings, he allowed two earned runs and six hits.

Cape begins District 14 play today with a 6 p.m. doubleheader against Jackson at Capaha Field.

Jackson Sr. Babe sweeps

The Jackson Senior Babe Ruth team improved to 4-0 by sweeping Sunday's doubleheader at Malden, 2-0 and 15-3.

Chris Roth, Garrett Fritsche and B.I. Howard combined on a one-hit shutout in the opener. Fritsche got the win and Howard pitched the seventh for a save.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Spencer Sander and Garrett Fritsche both singled and Bret Steffens drove them home with a double. Fritsche had three hits and Sander added two hits.

Austin Mueller notched the victory in the nightcap. Jackson banged out 12 hits, led by Sander and Ryan Bass with three apiece. Jacob Wiley added two hits.

Jackson hosts Charleston at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Jackson Jr. wins title

The Jackson American Legion junior team continued its strong season by winning a tournament that concluded Sunday in Calvert City, Ky.

Jackson (16-2) went 3-1 in the tournament. The squad beat Paducah, Ky., 6-5, Metropolis, Ill., 15-5 and Bowling Green, Ky., 6-2. Its loss was to Crestwood, Mo., 8-3.

Austin Fowler led Jackson's hitters by going 7-for-11 with a home run. John Bohnsack went 5-for-11.

Bohnsack, Dylan Koehler and Ryan Gendron all notched pitching victories.

Jackson visits District 14 rival Cape Girardeau at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
