Zeno "Sam" Blattel Jr., 73, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Zeno and Theresa Elizabeth Weidenbenner Blattel.

He and Carolyn J. Kitchen were married Aug. 28, 1965, at Kelso, Missouri.

She preceded him in death Sept. 17, 2014.

He attended the Church of God in Cape Girardeau. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus #1111 and Craftsmen Union. He had worked for Fru Con and was an environmental supervisor for Beverly Enterprises. Sam was a jack of all trades and a man of many quotes. He loved sports and attended all of his grandkids' activities.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa (Richard) Compton and Crystal (Aaron) Kirleis of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Margaret Pikey of Olathe, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Tyler Grovenor, Trey (Tabitha) Grovenor, Todd Grovenor, Tori Compton, Kaylee Kirleis, Kelsey Kirleis, Karly Kirleis and Kaden Kirleis; and five great-grandchildren, Brock Compton, Blain Compton, Terra Ann Grovenor, Bryce Tuberville and Levi Riker Grovenor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Roop officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family to help with funeral expenses.
