Zackary Hunter Johnston, 23, of Scott City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, while doing what he loved most, duck hunting in Scott County. He was born Aug. 6, 1992, in Cape Girardeau to James and Marsha Elfrank Johnston. He was a warehouse manager for Holloway Carpet One. He was a 2011 graduate of Scott City High School, past president of the school's BRU Crew and active in student council. He loved playing for the Rams baseball team...

Zackary Hunter Johnston, 23, of Scott City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, while doing what he loved most, duck hunting in Scott County.

He was born Aug. 6, 1992, in Cape Girardeau to James and Marsha Elfrank Johnston.

He was a warehouse manager for Holloway Carpet One. He was a 2011 graduate of Scott City High School, past president of the school's BRU Crew and active in student council. He loved playing for the Rams baseball team.

He was a guide for Grassy Lake Hunting Club in Illinois and an avid hunter and photographer of wildlife. He was a Ducks Unlimited member. He studied at Southeast Missouri State University.

Everyone who knew Zack loved him and his contagious smile.

Zack is survived by his parents; a brother, Andrew Johnston of the home; his beloved hunting buddy, Layla Jane Johnston; maternal grandmother, Virginia Elfrank of Scott City; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Bernard Elfrank, and paternal grandparents, James and Martha Johnston.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri Building Fund, 2536 Boutin Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
