SIKESTON -- William W. "Dub" Wilkison, 84, of Sikeston died Monday, April 20, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born March 11, 1914, at Polo, son of William Wilson and Mary Virginia Seiss Wilkison. He and Mary F. Collins were married Sept. 25, 1937, in Olathe, Kan.

Wilkison was head of the math and science department at Sikeston High School from 1943-76. He served as a science fair judge 18 years, and sponsored many regional science fair winners and national finalists.

He was one of 50 educators in the United States chosen to participate in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Symposium at the Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in 1965. He received recognition from Werner Von Braun, NASA Flight Center director.

Wilkison received a bachelor of science degree in physics from Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, and master of arts degree in education from Washington University in St. Louis.

He was a member of Southeast Missouri State Teachers Association, In 1976 he received the Meritorious Service to Education Award and the Outstanding Classroom Teacher Award.

Wilkison did fellowship studies at the University of Missouri-Rolla, Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio, Rutgers University in Princeton, N.J., and Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Chancel Choir 25 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William "Bill" Wilkison of Richardson, Texas; a daughter, Mary Miller of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Young of Warrensburg; and five grandchildren.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jim Davis and the Rev. Fred Leist officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
