SIKESTON -- Funeral service for W.J. "Chip" Schmerbauch of Sikeston will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Buck will officiate, with burial in Caledonia Cemetery at Sparta, Ill.
Schmerbauch, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born March 26, 1906, in Kaskaskia, Ill., son of John L. and Charlotte Buatte Schmerbauch. He and Margaret W. Cathcart were married Feb. 7, 1939. She died Nov. 20, 1991.
Schmerbauch attended Sanford-Brown Business School in St. Louis. He was owner/operator of Chip's Shoe Alley from 1938-61. After retiring he worked at Portageville DAEOC Office several years.
He was a charter member of Sikeston Rotary Club and was selected as a Paul A. Harris Fellow. In 1987 he received the senior volunteer award from Southwestern Bell Telephone.
Survivors include a daughter, Margie Murphy of Farmington; three brothers, Otis and Paul Schmerbauch of Chester, Ill., James Schmerbauch of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Nora Flynn of San Bernardino, Calif.; a grandson and granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
