W.J. Proffer, 63, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
W.J. was born June 10, 1959, in Cape Girardeau to J.W. and Mary Lena Tayor Proffer. He and Cheryl Decker were married April 23, 2016, in Millersville.
He worked for Rubbermaid as a mechanic for 39 years. He loved hunting, fishing, cutting wood and planting his yearly garden.
In addition to his loving wife, Cheryl, W.J. is survived by a daughter, Jenny Bey, and her children, Justin, Jenna and Haley; stepdaughter, Cori (Mike) Sexauer, and her children, Travis and Anna; stepson, Christopher Wright, and his children, Drake and Tessa; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Kenny) Sides, Doris (David) Jones and Jackie (Tyson) Norman; and a brother-in-law, John Moore.
W.J. was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robbie Proffer; stepson, Chuck Bey; and sister, Ella Jean Moore.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
