Winifred "Winnie" Dumey, 83, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 18, 1932, near Millersville, the daughter of Boyd and Bertha Sander Summers Jr. She and Ralph L. Dumey were married July 3, 1953, at First United Methodist Church in Chaffee, Missouri. They had been married nearly 59 years when Ralph passed away April 1, 2012.
Winnie was a 1950 graduate of Chaffee High School. She and Ralph moved from Scott City to Jackson in 1962 and joined the New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson, where she was very active in the church, United Methodist Women and the Mary and Martha Circle for many years.
Winnie was a longtime employee of Southeast Hospital in the cashier's office.
She was a very caring and giving grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great delight in homemaking and preparing meals for her entire family as often as possible. She loyally followed the Cardinals, but her greatest joy was being with her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Loving survivors include two sons, Mike (Betsy) Dumey of Cape Girardeau and Mark (Laura) Dumey of Jackson; four grandchildren, Lindsey Wulfers of Cape Girardeau, Tyler (Kelley) Dumey of St. Louis and Lauren and Caitlyn Dumey of Cape Girardeau; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Boyd (Juanita) Summers of Jackson; three sisters, Bertha (the late Wib) Haupt and Elvira (Gilbert) Urhahn of Jackson and Virginia (the late Quentin) Felty of Millersville; two sisters-in-law, Wilma (the late Lloyd) Summers and Mary (the late Robert) Dumey of Jackson; a stepbrother, Dan Glenzy of O'Fallon, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at New McKendree United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. David Israel, Jimmie Corbin and Karen Dumey officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to New McKendree United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
