Wilton H. "Witt" Suedekum, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 14, 1994, at the Lutheran Home of Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 14, 1914, at Cape Girardeau, the son of Judge William F. and Laura Keller Suedekum. On April 12, 1936, he married Flora Goehring, who survives of Cape Girardeau.

He was in the hardware business throughout his lifetime, owning and operating Suedekum Hardware on Good Hope Street until he sold the business in 1982. He continued to work as a consultant with the new owner, Meyer Supply Company, until July 1990. He was a past recipient of the Estwing Gold Hammer Award for outstanding service in the hardware industry.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was president of the Trinity Bowling Association for many years, an usher, chairman for 40 years of the church's envelope committee, and past president of the Trinity Men's Club. He also was a past board member of the Cape Girardeau Bowling Association, a member of the Kimbeland County Club, active in the Capaha baseball program during the 1940s, and a Southeast Missouri State University booster for many years.

Other survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Ackman and Suzanne Vaughn, both of Cape Girardeau; a brother, William F. Suedekum of Arcadia, Texas; a sister, Marie Wolbrecht of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Dissen will officiate, and burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
