WHITEWATER -- Wilson S. "Bart" Bartels, 84, of Camarillo, Calif., died Sunday, June 1, 1997, in Camarillo. He was born Dec. 10, 1912, at Whitewater. Bartels was a teacher in Missouri during the 1930s, and later was a space craft manager with NASA for three of the Gemini projects at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis. He retired as an electronics engineer with Pt. Mugu. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II...

WHITEWATER -- Wilson S. "Bart" Bartels, 84, of Camarillo, Calif., died Sunday, June 1, 1997, in Camarillo.

He was born Dec. 10, 1912, at Whitewater.

Bartels was a teacher in Missouri during the 1930s, and later was a space craft manager with NASA for three of the Gemini projects at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis. He retired as an electronics engineer with Pt. Mugu. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Stella; three sons, Gareth and Ron Bartels of Bakersfield, Calif., John Bartels of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Elmer Bartels of Missouri; a sister, Leta Rose of Missouri; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Friends may call at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.
