Wilma Ruth Whitledge, 91, of Jackson died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at her home.

She was born Aug. 28, 1917, at Fruitland, daughter of Charles Jamey and Nellie Mae Howard McDowell. She and Glenn A. Whitledge were married in September 1937. He died May 5, 2007.

Whitledge was a graduate of Fruitland High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She helped her husband in farming, and operated Fruitland Methodist Church Day Care from 1982 to 1992.

She was a member of Jackson Church of the Nazarene, founder and charter member of Pocahontas Homemakers Club and founder of Pocahontas 4-H Club.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd (Velma) Whitledge and Gary (Cassandra) Whitledge of Jackson; a daughter, Nancy (Donald) Schuette of Jackson; and a sister, Genevieve Chapman of Tonawanda, N.Y.

Also 10 grandchildren, Shari Elfrink, Kriston Knaust, Dina Holland, Kara Whitledge, Amy Gammon, Dr. Joshua Whitledge, Donna Turner, Debra Borcherding, Donald Schuette Jr., and Dana Schuette; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Elliott, Lloyd and Orville; and two sisters, Virgie Irene and Ruby.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Harper officiating. Burial will be in Apple Creek Presbyterian Cemetery at Pocahontas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apple Creek Memorial Presbyterian Association, Southeast Hospice and Jackson Church of the Nazarene.
