Wilma Alleen Ervin, 91, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016.
She was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Cape Girardeau to Clarence and Gertie Smith Shirrell. She and Loyd Ervin were married March 5, 1944, in Cape Girardeau. They were married for 65 years until Loyd passed away Jan. 12, 2009.
Wilma graduated from College High School in 1942. After graduation she worked in the office of International Shoe Co. Later she was a stay-at-home mom until her children were older, then worked at Cape Ready Mix as a computer operator until they closed. Wilma was a Cub Scout leader for her sons, a Junior High Sunday school teacher and the church secretary for several years. She attended Emerald St. Church of God in Cape Girardeau. She sang in the Unity Quartet, in church and special occasions. She also sang duets and was in the church choir until she was 89 years old. Wilma worked as a volunteer for Southeast Hospital in the surgical waiting room for several years. She also loved to work in the yard with her plants and flowers.
Survivors include daughter LaDonna (Harry) Salazar; sons Mike Ervin and Robert Ervin of Cape Girardeau; brothers Clarence Lee (Donna) Shirrell of Sikeston, Missouri, Clinton (Elaine) Shirrell, Clayton (Sherri) Shirrell and Charles Shirrell of Cape Girardeau; sisters Mildred (Charles) Eastwood of Fruitland Park, Florida, and Bonnie (Shelby) Christy of Jackson; grandchildren Todd Fulton, Anthony Salazar and Cara Ervin; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Cletis Shirrell; and a sister, Wanda June Shirrell.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family requests an act of kindness in honor of Wilma.
