Willis Haertling, 87, of Jackson and formerly of New Wells passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 16, 1932, at New Wells, son of Eldor H. and Alma Meyr Haertling. He married Thelma Amanda Sticht on Oct. 20, 1956, at Salem Lutheran Church at Farrar, Missouri.
Willis was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells. He was baptized at the church in December 1932 and later confirmed in March 1947. Willis also served the church in many other positions and capacities. He and Thelma owned and operated a farm near New Wells and moved to Jackson in 1998. At this time Willis went to work for Pocahontas Lumber and later Southeast Hospital.
Loving survivors include his wife, Thelma of over 64 years; a daughter, Diane (Mark) Strege of St. Charles, Missouri; a son, Michael Haertling and his special friend Dee Miller of Jackson; four grandchildren, Seth (Vanessa) Strege, Ashley (Ross) Brannock, Luke Strege, and Kasey Pitts; four great-grandchildren, Bastian Strege, Beckham Strege, Rhyatt Pitts and Rogue Pitts; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Haertling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Milton and his wife Marliyn Haertling and Ellis Haertling.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Rod Benkendorf officiating. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
