William Young

ORAN, Mo. -- William "Shorty" Young, 84, of Oran, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, went home to be with his beloved Lord on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Lamar, Ark., son of John William and Eva Felicia Casey Young. He and Dorlis Bernice Vaughn were married Oct. 26, 1946. She preceded him in death Aug. 29, 2009.

Shorty was a cutter at International Hat Factory in Oran until it closed, and later retired as a cutter and lay-out person with Columbia Sportswear in Chaffee, Mo. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Oran.

Survivors include two sons, Tony Young and Mark (Phyllis) Young of Oran; two grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Young of Barnhart, Mo., Lisa Young of Oran; a great-granddaughter, Breanna of Oran; and two special family members, Rickey and Carolyn Smith of Oran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating. Burial will be in New Morley Cemetery at Morley, Mo.
