ST. LOUIS -- Surrounded by his immediate family, William J. Walters of St. Louis passed away Friday, May 7, 2021.
A faith-filled man, Bill was active in the Catholic faith his entire life, predominantly as a member of St. Timothy's and then St. Mark's parishes.
He was the principal driver and then owner/operator of Walters Pony Express, a same-day delivery service founded by his father and in successful operation until his retirement in 2002.
He was an avid sports fan and athlete, enjoying immensely participating in bicycling, recreational volleyball and attending any and all sporting events his children and grandchildren participated in. Of course, he always rooted for his St. Louis Cardinals.
Bill was a loving, caring and genuine husband, father and friend to many. He is now and will always be missed by all who love him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lou-Ann Winchel Walters, and his children, Vicki, Jeff, Cindy, Julie and Bill. He was a loving father and a grandfather to 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Bill was preceded in passing by his parents, William and Helen Walters, and by his younger brother, Edward, all of St. Mary, Missouri.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Catholic Church, 4220 Ripa Ave., in St. Louis. Visitation will be prior to Mass, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice NAMI or St. Mark Catholic Church.
