William "Bill" Voerg, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Aug. 10, 1929, in St. Louis to Clarence and Lillian Juarez Voerg. He and Shirlene Rhyne were married Jan. 9, 1958, in New Albany, Mississippi.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked for the city of Cape Girardeau for 20 years, retiring in 1991.

He loved attending everything his children and grandchildren were involved with and was a big fan of Yankees baseball. He was a member of Elks Lodge 639 and Eagles 3775.

Survivors include his wife, Shirlene Voerg of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Belinda (Gary) Miller of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Derrick (Sherri) Voerg of Summerville, South Carolina, and Lloyd (Tina) Voerg of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Gary (Hillary) Miller of Cape Girardeau, Amber Voerg of St. Louis, Ashlie (Jami) Voerg of St. Louis, Jessica (Derick) McClain of Gordonville, Alex (Chris) Beck of Cape Girardeau and Ryan (Rachel) Voerg of Cape Girardeau; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Lloyd W. Voerg.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with full military rites.

Inurnment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau at a later time.
