William Stroud, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 11, 2014, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Sept. 10, 1932, in St. Louis, to C. Malone and Frances Elizabeth Glascock Stroud.

William graduated from John Burroughs School in 1950. He attended Washington University in St. Louis a year and Harvard University in Boston two and a half years.

In his younger years he worked at Ralston Purina Co., on a hospital kitchen staff in Boston, and a restaurant kitchen staff in California.

During the 40 years he lived in Cape Girardeau, William enjoyed the library, reading and going out to eat when he could.

William is survived by two sisters, Betty Driemeyer of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, and Barbara Stroud-Borth of Mount Pulaski, Illinois; a brother, Robert Stroud and wife Gloria of Ormond Beach, Florida; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

A memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials may be given to Fountainbleau Lodge or to an organization of the donor's choice.
