William Smith Criddle, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, April 13, 1996, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Dec. 9, 1899, in Oak Ridge to William Smith and Minnie Mae Davenport Criddle. He married Verda Irene Stroder on Nov. 25, 1920, in Hickory Grove. She survives...

William Smith Criddle, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, April 13, 1996, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 9, 1899, in Oak Ridge to William Smith and Minnie Mae Davenport Criddle.

He married Verda Irene Stroder on Nov. 25, 1920, in Hickory Grove. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, James William Criddle of Whitewater and Dewey Lee Criddle of Rock Falls, Ill.; a daughter, Mary Janice Fadden of Sterling, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.

Criddle taught school from 1920-1921 and worked for 25 years with International Shoe in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1951. He farmed from 1951-1965 and then moved to Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of the Whitewater Methodist Church and the Methodist Men's Club. He also taught Sunday School at the church.

Friends mall call at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel today from 5-8 p.m.

Service will be at the funeral chapel Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating.

Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
