William P. Seyer, 86, of Chaffee, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Seyer was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Kelso, Mo., to the late Jacob and Mary Radin Seyer. He married Camilla F. Georger on April 24, 1946. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary prior to her death on Oct. 12, 1996.
William proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Armored Division from 1941-45. He saw duty in North Africa, Sicily, Belgium, France, England and Germany. His tank division landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and was the first American division to enter and occupy Berlin. He was the recipient of seven Bronze Stars and a presidential unit citation.
William was retired from Central Packing Co. after 32 years. After retiring, he was well known throughout the area for his bountiful garden. He spent many pleasurable hours tending his garden and generously shared the fruits of his labor with family members and many friends.
He was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church and St. Ambrose Mens Club. William was also a member of the Chaffee VFW Post No. 3127.
Survivors include four daughters; Wilma Kinder of Springfield, Mo., Melva Seyer Tucker of Biehle, Mo., Lucille Anderson of Plainsboro, N.J., and Dr. Mary Ann Koen of Rolla, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. today.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Ambrose Church in Chaffee. The Rev. Ralph Duffner will officiate, with burial at the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Kelso, Mo.
