William "Bill" August Schlegel, son of the late Henry and Mayhulda Geiser Schlegel, was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Cape Girardeau and departed his life Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Spring Creek Nursing Home in Murray, Kentucky, at the age of 94 years.

He was a farmer for many years and a former forklift driver for Associated Building Centers. Bill enjoyed working in lawn care after his retirement.

He was associated with Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

On July 28, 1962, he was united in marriage to Lavada Ann Heuring in Cape Girardeau. She survives of the home.

Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Janice Winder of Murray; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Schlegel; five brothers, Richard, Albert, Melvin, Alvin and Clarence Schlegel; and five sisters, Marie Nagel, Erna Duckworth, Mildred Brugger, Frieda Wendel and Vanita Randol.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 15, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral service will then be conducted at noon Saturday, April 15, with the Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating. Entombment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
