WHITEWATER -- William "Pete" Tolbert Jr., 62, of Whitewater died Sunday, April 28, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeu.

He was born May 29, 1928 in Delta, the son of the late William Tolbert Sr. and Lula Moore Tolbert. On April 26, 1952, he married Janet Bartels, who survives of the home.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired in 1990 as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Whitewater, the Whitewater Methodist Men's Club, Operating Engineers Local Union #513, and the American Legion Post #158 of Jackson.

Other survivors include three daughters, Gail Beck of Chaffee, Lavonna Berkbuegler of O'Fallon, and Kellie Brown of Fruitland; a brother, Bob Tolbert of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren, Tashia and Jared Beck, both of Chaffee, and Amber and Lauren Berkbuegler, both of O'Fallon.

A son also preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The Rev. Virgil Bunch will officiate, and burial will be in the Crump Cemetery in Crump.
