CAIRO, Ill. -- William P. Egan Jr., 88, of Cairo died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at the Daystar Care Center.
He was born in Cairo Nov. 17, 1907, the son of William P. and Nell Decker Egan.
Egan was the vice president of Security Bank and Trust Co. and served on the Cairo City Council and as mayor pro tem for several years.
He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church where he served on the parish council. He also was a past-president of the Kiwanis Club and treasurer of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce.
He was a board member of the Daystar Care Center, a member of the city's cemetery association, a member of the Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus and had been a Democratic precinct committeeman.
He is survived by a daughter, Sydney Fleming of Cape Girardeau, a sister, Alice M. Egan of Cape Girardeau, and two grandsons. His wife, Kathryn, died in 1964.
Visitation will be at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 4 p.m. Friday. A rosary will be said at 7.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patricks Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry and Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will follow at the Cairo City Cemetery in Villa Ridge.
