William Thomas Ogle, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Big Piney, Mo., to Dorsey and Mabel Derry Ogle. He and Betty Jane Reinbold were married July 24, 1948, at East St. Louis, Ill.

Mr. Ogle moved to Cape Girardeau in 1947. He worked for R.B. Potaschnick and Girardeau Contractors, retiring in 1994 as superintendent of construction. He then worked for the city of Cape Girardeau as an inspector.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and in Central Europe. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Silver Star, five Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal.

Bill was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3838 and American Legion Post 63 in Cape Girardeau. He was also a member of the Elks and the SEMO Fair Board for 14 years.

Survivors include his spouse, Betty Jane Ogle; two sons, William Ogle Jr. of Cape Girardeau and Brad and wife Tina Ogle of St. Louis; four daughters, Brenda and husband Jerry Mudge of Jackson, Bonnie Ogle, Beverly and husband Steve Boren and Becky and husband Mark Pobst, all of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Charles Richard Ogle of Wilmington, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

There is no visitation.

A graveside service with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Entombment will follow.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Missouri Verteans Home.
