JACKSON -- William Newton Mason, 79, of Jackson, died Sunday, May 31, 1992, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
He was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Danvers, Ill., son of Edwin Augustus Keeble and Alice Fay Burdette Mason. He and Lillian Ann Biggins were married Jan. 9, 1947. She died Jan. 17, 1989.
Mason lived in Jackson from 1920-34, graduated from Jackson High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University.
While living here he had worked at Cash-Book Printing Co., Kelso Oil Co., and B.F. Goodrich. He was a captain in the Medical Corps during World War II.
He was credit manager at Stix, Baer and Fuller in St. Louis, and then for 20 years was an auditor with the Corps of Engineers in St. Louis, retiring 18 years ago.
Mason lived in Arkansas several years, moving back to Jackson in 1991. He was a member of the Episcopal Church in St. Louis.
Survivors include a sister, Alice Faye Thompson of Jackson; nephews; great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Otto Steinhaus officiating.
There is no visitation.
