VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- William F. "Bill" Koonce, 88, of Villa Ridge passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 19, 1926, in Cairo, Illinois, son of Lorraine C. "Bugs" and Vera E. Grey Koonce.
Bill attended Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a retired brakeman and switchman with GMO Railroad.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda (Herman) Conkling of Marquette Heights, Illinois; two grandchildren; and a close friend and neighbor, John Adams and family, all of Villa Ridge.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine Calvin Koonce; a brother, Louis C. "Jim" Koonce; and a sister, Mary Lou Koonce, Jan. 11, 2015.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by members of Illinois National Guard Burial Team and area veterans.
