WILLIAM J. LEGRAND

BENTON -- William J. LeGrand, 70, of Benton died Saturday, June 30, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 2, 1920 at Benton, the son of William and Mary Diebold LeGrand.

On May 4, 1943, he married Lavana Dannenmueller at Oran. She survives.

He was a lifetime resident of Benton and worked 35 years for First International Shoe and Florsheim Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau. He also was a self-employed painter and roofer. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton and was a member and past president of the St. Joseph Men's Sodality.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald LeGrand of Kelso, Randy LeGrand of Murphysboro, Ill. and Patrick LeGrand of Blytheville, Ark; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Ressel of Kelso, Mrs. Darlene New of St. Louis and Mrs. Nelli Kirkpatrick of Columbia; five brothers, Denis LeGrand of Benton, Paul LeGrand of Granite City, Ill., Charles LeGrand of O'Fallon, Ill., Alban LeGrand of Carlyle, Ill. and Francis LeGrand of Florissant; two sisters, Sister Rosabel LeGrand and Sister Angelica Legrand, both of Joliet, Ill.; and 13 grandchildren.

A daughter and a brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the Ford and Sons Funeral Chapel in Benton, where parish prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. The Rev. James Seyer will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
