William H. Frye, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born July 15, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of J. Grant and Emma Brucker Frye.
He married Patricia P. Karraker at Marble Hill on April 13, 1982. She survives.
He was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law.
He started his law practice in 1955 with his father, J. Grant Frye. He later started practice with Raymond Vogel.
He was a member of the Missouri Bar Association and American Bar Association.
He taught pre-law at Southeast Missouri State University.
He was a member of U.S. Trustee in the Eastern District Association for 20 years. He was a member of the Cape Girardeau County Bar Association for many years.
He was active in the Evening Optimist Club and was one of the first five people who signed the charter for the Noon Optimist Club. He was inducted into the Optimist Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Cape County Gun Club, and National Rifle Association. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a master sergeant. He later served in the Missouri National Guard. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 and American Legion Post 63.
He was a member of First Christian Church, and taught Sunday school many years.
Survivors include a son, William Allen Frye of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Annie Frye Finnegan of Jackson; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Adams and Alicia Adams, both of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Ralph Frye of Cape Girardeau, John G. Frye II of Scott City, Daniel Frye of Fort Myers, Fla., and George Frye of East Lansing, Mich.; a sister, Helen F. Craig of Eagle Lake, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Philip Curran officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum, with a military rite conducted at the mausoleum by VFW Post 3838.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
