PATTON, Mo. -- William Peter Grindstaff, 102, of Ann Arbor, Mich., died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born Dec. 13, 1899, at Patton, son of John H. and Effie Nugent Grindstaff. He and Mary Inez Haynes were married Oct. 27, 1932. She died Feb. 14, 2000...

PATTON, Mo. -- William Peter Grindstaff, 102, of Ann Arbor, Mich., died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.

He was born Dec. 13, 1899, at Patton, son of John H. and Effie Nugent Grindstaff. He and Mary Inez Haynes were married Oct. 27, 1932. She died Feb. 14, 2000.

While residing in Missouri he was a farmer. After moving to Ann Arbor in 1944 he was a night watchman and gardener at Nielsen's Greenhouses, retiring in 1988.

He was also formerly of Campbell and Bernie, Mo., and was a member of Bethany General Baptist Church in Campbell.

Survivors include three daughters, Edith Anderson of Saline, Mich., Mary Dunn and Rebecka Andress of Ann Arbor; a son, William "Jack" Grindstaff of Poway, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

A memorial service was held Wednesday in Ann Arbor.

Friends may call at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bryan Johnson and Dawsey Brown officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery at Campbell.
