CAIRO, Ill. -- William M. "Bill" Greer, 63, of Cairo died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, upon arrival at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 16, 1940, in Grand Chain, Ill., son of Roscoe and Inez Eddleman Greer. He married Teresa Diggs.
Greer was a former city superintendent in Cairo. He attended Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church, and was a member of Cairo VFW Post 2649. He was a former auxiliary officer with Cairo Police Department and Cairo Auxiliary Fire and Rescue Department.
He served with the U.S. Army in Germany.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Melanie Fiessinger of Waterloo, Ill., Rachel Dover of Olmsted, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kelly Cox officiating. Graveside rites will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Mound City National Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Pulaski County Memorial VFW Post 8891 at Mounds, Ill.
