CAIRO, Ill. -- William Earl "Big Ben" Vowels, 83, of Kansas City, Mo., died Saturday, March 5, 1994, at St. Luke Northland Hospital in Smithville, Mo.
He was born March 31, 1910, at Wyatt, Mo., son of Jesse and Anna Bradley Vowels.
Vowels retired as a machine opertor with Sterling Aluminum Co., and farmed at Gale 20 years. He was a former Cub Scout leader, and attended the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Phillip Vowels of Kansas City, Ronald Vowels of Rockford; a daughter, Judith Murphy of Alamogordo, N.M.; a sister, Corine Vowels of Cairo; 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5-8 p.m. Saturday.
Private memorial service will be held later in Kansas City.
