TAMMS, Ill. -- William A. "Sonny" Dakin, 70, of Mascoutah, Ill., formerly of Tamms, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
He was born Oct. 17, 1937, in Ullin, Ill., son of William and Edith Berry Dakin. He married the former Bernice Gramm.
Dakin retired as a machine operator with Ralcorp.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Robin and Rhonda; a son, Rex Dakin; a stepdaughter, Carol Haas of Belleville; five sisters, Irene Godar of Raleigh, N.C., Edith Guild and Pearl Poole of Tamms, Vivian Sheible of Mounds, Ill., Virginia Holshouser of Karnak, Ill.; three brothers, Joseph Dakin Sr. of Tamms, Russell and Roy Dakin of Mounds; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Woolever officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
