SIKESTON, Mo. -- William Sikes Corrigan, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center at Sikeston.
He was born July 20, 1910, at Popular Bluff, Mo., son of John Charles and Effie Sikes Corrigan. He and Margaret Barth were married Aug. 17, 1938, at St. Louis. She died Sept. 13, 1984.
Corrigan attended Chaminade High School at St. Louis and graduated from St. Louis University in 1932. He graduated from Georgetown University Law School at Washington, D.C., in 1935. Corrigan began working at the Bank of Sikeston (now Firstar Bank) in 1937 and retired in 1982. He served as the bank's vice president, president and chairman of the board during his time there. He was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church at Sikeston, served on the Sikeston Country Club Board of Directors, was a member and vice president of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce and was also a member of the Missouri Bankers Association and the Missouri Bar Association.
Survivors include three sons, John C. Corrigan III of Lakeland, Fla., William S. Corrigan Jr. and Dr. Joseph L. Corrigan, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Sheila DeFazio of Wellesley, Mass., and Ann Corrigan of St. Louis; a brother, James V. Corrigan of Olive Branch, Miss.; three sisters, Elizabeth A. (Sister Felicia) Corrigan of Loretto, Ky., Susanna Cornell of Dayton, Ohio, and Margaret C. Greider of Latrobe, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel at Sikeston. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Nunnelee chapel.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Church at Sikeston, with the Rev. William Stanton officiating. Burial will follow at the Sikeston City Cemetery.
