William Campbell

William Campbell, 95, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 28, 1912, in Jackson, son of John F. and Minnie Meyer Campbell. He and Ruth Adele Haman were married Nov. 16, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She passed away May 2, 2006.

William was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau where he served as an elder and trustee. He and his wife had owned and operated a dairy farm near Jackson that had been in the family for almost 200 years. William also was an avid fox hunter and a member of Fox Hunters Association of Cape County. He also enjoyed trading horses and playing baseball in his younger days for the Jungle Giants.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sharon Campbell; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Ken Volkerding, all of Jackson; a sister, Venieta Willbrand of St. Charles, Mo.; six grandchildren, Tara Dry of Jackson, Melissa Ford of Cape Girardeau, Allyson Volkerding of Jackson, Kyle Volkerding of Cape Girardeau, Kent Volkerding of Jackson, and Don Tom Volkerding of California; six great-grandchildren; and his Stephen Minister, Richard Beard.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters Marie Harbison and Margarette Brinkopf; a brother, Marvin Campbell; and a granddaughter, Sarah Volkerding.

Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to service time at Hanover Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church, with Vicar Tony Kobak officiating. Interment will follow in Hanover Lutheran Cemetery.
