LUBBOCK, TEXAS -- William Arthur Mills of Lubbock, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at St. Mary's of the Plains Hospital. He was 86 years old.
He was born June 1, 1912, in Commerce, the son of Arthur and Lillie Mae Haman Mills. He married Dollie Mae Pickett in Commerce in 1935. She preceded him in death April 26, 1996.
For four years, he served as chief of police for Cape Girardeau. In all, he worked seven years with the Cape police.
He also worked many years in maintenance at the SEMO University Power Plant.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by one son, William "Jo" Mills of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Dickey officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
