CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for William A. "Bill" Thurman of New Madrid and formerly of Charleston, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the McMikle Funeral Chapel in Charleston.
Fr. Raymond Kunkel, pastor of St. Henry's Catholic Church in Charleston, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery near Charleston.
Mr. Thurman died Monday from injuries he received in an automobile accident. He was 48.
He was born Sept. 10, 1942 in Charleston to Pauline Hart Thurman, who survives of Charleston, and the late Elmer William "Mike" Thurman.
He had lived in Charleston most of his life, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4294 and was an electrician at Noranda Aluminum near New Madrid.
On June 24, 1961, he married the former Peggy Graham, who survives of Charleston.
Following a divorce, he married the former Joyce Teague Sept. 10, 1986. She also survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Sheri Payne of Blytheville, Ark., and Carolyn Hatton and Lisa Thurman, both of Charleston; three step-sons, Marcus Teague of Charleston, Terrance Teague of St. Louis, and Adrian Teague of Morehouse; two step-daughters, Lynette Scott of San Diego, Calif. and Marsha Rowe of Charleston; one brother, John Henry Thurman of Charleston; seven sisters, Mary Lou Vinson, Rose Millner, Paula Meeks, Martha Humphrey, and Gail Faire, all of Charleston, Maxine Geers of Apple Valley, Calif., and Delores Hawkins of St. Louis; five grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, and a sister.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home, where prayer services are scheduled for 7 p.m. today.
