OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Willa Fern McCoy, 85, of Olive Branch passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at her home.
She was born Nov. 26, 1932, in Olive Branch, daughter of John and Violet Isom Haslauer. She married Sam McCoy on Sept. 16, 1951. He preceded her in death July 8, 2010.
Willa Fern was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Olive Branch, where she served as Sunday school secretary since 1973.
She was a homemaker and will be remembered for her chicken and dumplings that were always requested at family reunions, holiday get-togethers and church dinners. She didn't work outside the home but she did have a little "side" business: baking and decorating cakes. There would be many times one of her children would call her late in the evening and she would be mixing up frosting to make the roses and flowers for the many birthday, anniversary and wedding cakes she made and sold over the years.
Survivors include three sons, Lyle (Elizabeth) McCoy and Kevin (Gerrie) McCoy, all of Olive Branch, and Shanon (Shelly) McCoy of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Renda (Jeff) Eggimann of Jackson and Tami (Larry Wiseheart) Bernhardt of Marble Hill, Missouri; a brother, John Haslauer of Eagle, Idaho; a sister, Carol Winn of Dade City, Florida; eight grandchildren, Kathi (Bryan) Gosche, Jason O'Brien, Tyler Eggimann, Hannah Bernhardt, Jerad (Alysha) McCoy, Kenton Bernhardt, Nathan McCoy and Noah McCoy; two great-granddaughters, Kayle Gosche and Aubree McCoy; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two infant children.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Illinois, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Olive Branch.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Steve Clardy and the Rev. Carl Miller officiating. Burial will be at Olive Branch Cemetery.
