Wilfred Colon, 74, 1004 Sturdivant, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1993, at his home. He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Humphrey, Ark., son of Jessie and Cathrine Swoopes Colon. He and the former Louise Ayers were married Nov. 5, 1953, in Cape Girardeau. Colon had been a quarryman and foreman at Marquette Cement, worked at Modern Roofing and Pyramid Roofing, and worked 19 years for Drury Construction Co., retiring in 1977...

Wilfred Colon, 74, 1004 Sturdivant, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1993, at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Humphrey, Ark., son of Jessie and Cathrine Swoopes Colon. He and the former Louise Ayers were married Nov. 5, 1953, in Cape Girardeau.

Colon had been a quarryman and foreman at Marquette Cement, worked at Modern Roofing and Pyramid Roofing, and worked 19 years for Drury Construction Co., retiring in 1977.

He served in the U.S. Army and received three Bronze Stars.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Wilfredo and Mike Colon of Cape Girardeau, James Belle of Webster Groves; five daughters, Mary Lee of Gosnell, Ark., Dollie Farrar, Brenda and Patricia Colon of Cape Girardeau, Cynthia Colon of San Bernardino, Calif.; his mother of Maywood, Ill.; three brothers, Jesse Colon of Gary, Ind., Willie Colon of Harvey, Ill., Harry Colon of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Giboney of Denver, Colo., Ethel Swift of Maywood; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, with VFW graveside rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
