JACKSON -- Wilbert (Wib) Sewing, 70, of Jackson, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Jan. 8, 1925, son of Robert H. and Lydia Grossheider Sewing.

He married Hunter Jean Call May 29, 1949. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Robert L. Sewing of Jackson; four daughters, Paula Altschul of Portland, Ore., Kay Bowlin of Oak Ridge, Sue Sewing, Powell, Tn., and Margie Sewing of Jackson; a brother, Nelson Sewing, Freidham; a sister, Wanda Sewing, Freidham; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Sewing served in the Navy during WWII.

He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Freidheim. He transferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church at Jackson in 1949.

He served as assistant manager of Jackson Farm Bureau in 1948 and 1948. He was in the oil business a number of years. He worked with Kelso Oil until 1951. He operated his own Mobile Oil Co. from 1959 until his retirement in 1989.

He also drove the St.Paul Lutheran School bus.

He was secretary of the Jackson All-Star Bowling League 34 years, and was a member of the District Bowling Hall of Fame.

He was a member of the American Legion and a charter member of the St. Paul Men's Club. He was former elder and usher. He was also a member of the church's building committee and the special activity center building committee.

Service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Friends may call today from 2 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home.
