ANNA, Ill. -- Wilbert "Bill" Watkins, 71, of Anna, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, at Union County Hospital.

He was born Nov. 30, 1924, at Mill Creek, son of Charles and Ruth Lindsay Watkins. He and Wanda Ruth McClellan were married Sept. 26, 1947, in Ullin.

Watkins was employed by Illinois Central Railroad 38 years. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church and Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. He was a veteran of World War II and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Darla Jones of Buncombe; two sons, Ronnie Watkins of Anna, Gary Watkins of Cobden; two sisters, Faye Adams of Anna, Judy Hafford of Cairo; three brothers, Jim Watkins of Jonesboro, Vernon Watkins of Anna, Bob Watkins of Mountain Home, Idaho, and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Hertenstein officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
