Wilbert E. Huettig, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at The Lutheran Home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Cape Girardeau County, son of John Oscar and Freida Klaus Huettig. He and Delma M. Oberbeck were married Sept. 10, 1944, at Cape Girardeau.

Huettig was a very active member of Hanover Lutheran Church, serving as an elder and an usher, on the stewardship board and in the Dramatic Club.

He was former vice president of A.A.L. Huettig was a dairy farmer on the land where the Jaycee Golf Course in Cape Girardeau County is located. He was the original manager of the Jaycee Golf Course until 1960. He later worked for Och's Florist, Hazel Florist and Dalton's Florist, retiring in 1990.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn R. and James W. Mirly of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Ruby Meyer and Dorothy Bertrand, both of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Steven Mirly and his wife, Tonia, of Cape Girardeau, and Jill Clements and her husband, Richard, of Jackson; and three great-grandchildren, Bethany and Logan Mirly and Samantha Clements.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home and from 9 a.m until the time of the service Tuesday at Hanover Lutheran Church.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hanover Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Hackney will officiate, with burial in Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran School Tuition Fund, Saxony Lutheran High School or the American Diabetes Association.
