PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Wilbert Statler, 81, of Perryville died Aug. 8, 2008, at the Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville.
He was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Perry County, Mo., son of Robert and Nola Statler. He and Bertie Welker were married Oct. 9, 1948, in Jackson.
He was a quality control fieldman for the Perryville Cheese Plant from 1951 until it closed in the late 1980s.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the VFW Post 4282, AmVets Post 94, American Legion Post 133 and United Commercial Travels Insurance. He was a founding member of the Army National Guard Perryville unit, which he served in for 39 years.
He also served in the Philippines during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Lou Hagan and Kathy Marie Hobbs, both of Perryville; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 6:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at Young and Sons Chapel. A VFW wake will be at 7 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Craig King officiating.
Burial will be in Home Cemetery in Perryville.
Military graveside service will be provided by VFW Post 4282 and the Delta Team.
