Weldon David Hilpert, 79, of Jackson passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 29, 1940, in Cape Girardeau to Albert and Myrtle Meyer Hilpert. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He and Joann Schwab were married July 2, 1966.
Weldon attended Trinity Lutheran School and was a 1958 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University. He worked 39 years for Missouri Utilities Co., Union Electric and Ameren, retiring in May 2000.
The Hilperts were active members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where Weldon served in many different capacities. He was a charter member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
After retiring, he completed the Hilpert family tree. Recently, he was active with the Cape Girardeau County Historical Society and the History Center. Being a lifetime Los Angeles Dodgers fan provided many "discussions" with his friends.
Loving survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joann Hilpert of Jackson; their children, Karla (Kurt) Pfefferkorn of Chaffee, Missouri, and Drew (Rebecca) Hilpert of Springfield, Missouri; grandsons, Nate and Joe Pfefferkorn; granddaughters, Erika and Keira Hilpert; brother, Norman (Sue) Hilpert of Brownwood, Texas; and brothers-in-law, David (Phyllis) Schwab and Roger (Patricia) Schwab of Jackson. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, Diann Marmino and Brian Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alan Hilpert; and an infant brother.
A memorial visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
The Rev. Weston Wildauer will officiate a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
