McCLURE, Ill. -- Funeral service for Webb Newton of McClure will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at McClure Baptist Bible Church. The Rev. F.M. Speakman will officiate, with burial in Jonesboro Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. to service time.

Hileman and Parr Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Newton, 94, died Sunday, July 23, 1995, at Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro.

He was born Sept. 26, 1900, in Lick Creek, son of James and Mary Webb Newton. He and Joyce Douglas were married Sept. 3, 1925, in Cairo.

Newton taught school 40 years in Alexander County. He was a member of McClure Baptist Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Newton of Carbondale, Lynn Newton of St. Charles; four sisters, Lillian McRaven of Chicago Heights, Alice Snow of Wilmore, Ky., Hazel Ford of Flossmoor, Pauline James of Dousman, Wis.; a brother, James Newton of Bonne Terre, Mo., and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
