SIKESTON -- William Cecil Leigh, 85, of Sikeston died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born July 6, 1914, in Lonoke, Ark., son of Edward Ross and Mary Ethel Clement Leigh. He and Susie Mae Clayton were married May 4, 1940, at Caruthersville. She died June 9, 1991.
Leigh farmed in Mississippi County many years. He received a Balanced Farming Award from St. Louis Chamber of Commerce in 1951.
He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church and member of its Immanuel Sunday School Class. He also was a member of Charleston Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star in Sikeston.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Leigh of Sikeston, Albert "Skip" Leigh of Marion, Ark.; two daughters, Sue and Barbara Leigh of Sikeston; a brother, Charles Leigh of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Annie Spear, Mary Scott and Betty Jones of Sikeston; a friend, Margaret Alger of Sikeston; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and nine great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with Dr. Jim Guffie officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
