Wayne Oliver Powers, 71, of Sherman, Ill., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
He was born May 15, 1930, in Boxholm, Iowa, son of Daniel I. and Stella M. Kirkendall Powers. He and Freda M. Schupbach were married June 15, 1947.
Powers was a truck driver with ABF 28 years, retiring in 1995. He moved to Sherman in 1985 from Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Nancy Newman of Springfield, Ill., Kathryn Powers of Sherman, Amy Laraine Sadler of Williamsville, Ill., Sara Beverman of Lincoln, Ill.; three sons, Carl Powers of Springfield, Mo., Charles Powers of Valdosta, Ga., Daniel Powers of Trenton, Texas; two sisters, Betty Pruitt and LaDonna Alexander of Nixa, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Friends may call at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, Ill., from 6:30-8 p.m. today, and Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Mark Emerson officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
