CAIRO, Ill. -- Wayne Powell, 52, of Route 1, Cairo, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, at John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born Feb. 24, 1940, at Portageville, son of Erpural and Lillian Threlkeld Powell. He was an operating engineer for the Guscave-Newberg Construction Co. CAIRO, Ill. -- Wayne Powell, 52, of Route 1, Cairo, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, at John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis.

He was born Feb. 24, 1940, at Portageville, son of Erpural and Lillian Threlkeld Powell.

He was an operating engineer for the Guscave-Newberg Construction Co. He was a veteran of the Army, member of Cairo VFW Post 2649 and member of Operating Engineers Local 181.

He is survived by his son, Steven W. Powell, Cairo; mother, Lillian Cervantes, Cairo; brother, Ronnie Powell, Cairo; sister, and Pat Owens, Bardwell, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkett Funeral HOme, with the Rev. Father Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Mounds.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
