Wayne Emerson McClard, 85, of Jackson died Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Wayne was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Jackson to Edna Williams and George Dayton McClard. The oldest of three children, he had two brothers, Lane and Neil. He married Joyce Ann Hahs on June 3, 1978, at Sargent's Chapel in Sedgewickville, Missouri. Wayne was also blessed with children, Lisa and Brett.
Wayne was a proud graduate of Jackson High School in 1953. He worked at Jones Drug Store beginning at a young age, retiring at 70 with more than 50 years of employment. He fondly remembered Henry "Heine" Jones, the original owner of the store, who hired him as a young man. Wayne was also very close to all those employees who worked at Jones Drug with him through the years and considered them his second family. Wayne also worked a short time for Cracraft-Miller Furniture and Funeral Home in Jackson.
As a native of Jackson, Wayne loved his hometown. He had formerly served as alderman for Ward 4 and as a member of Jackson Park Board. Wayne was also involved with Jackson Jaycees as a charter member, Jackson Retail Merchants, Jackson Optimist Club and Jackson Elks Club No. 2652. He was currently serving as a board member for Jackson Senior Citizens organization.
Wayne loved his graduating class of JHS, helping to organize multiple class reunions through the years. Celebrating the 65th reunion in 2018, the class members continued to meet on a regular basis for lunch at the Jackson Senior Citizens facility.
Traveling was an adventure for Wayne, and he was always ready to begin the next trip. He enjoyed traveling with Joyce's family to many states in the U.S., including Tennessee, South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, Arkansas and Illinois. He and Joyce made many journeys to Texas to visit his daughter, including one special trip to see the Alamo and San Antonio Riverwalk.
Wayne was a member of Cape County Cowboy Church.
