Wayne William Bening, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at his home.

He was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Okawville, Illinois, to William W. and Adele Tepe Bening.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a medic. Wayne was a graduate of Okawville Community High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Missouri.

He was a former member of Cape Girardeau Jaycees, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and Evening Optimist Club.

Wayne was employed in consumer finance, leasing and insurance for many years. For 27 years, he was the owner and operator of State Collection Inc. Wayne was a licensed Missouri insurance broker and a national member of Time Financial Adjuster. He was also a member of the American Recovery Association.

He is survived by four children, Deborah (Rob) Pensel, Susan Niswonger, John Bening and Joseph (Shelly) Bening; daughter-in-law, Tammy Bening; grandchildren, Joshua Pensel, Erika Bening, Tyler Bening, Blake Bening and Jacob Bening; great-grandchild, Raylee Jo Bening; brother, Dennis Bening; and sister, Elverna Voelkel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Due to current gathering restrictions, the family will have a private viewing, followed by a private graveside service at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Interment will be in the veterans section at the cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Missouri Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
